- Currently my most recommended engine
- After downloading, you can open it directly, except that the UI (the game interface (like title or setting screen)) is a bit difficult to adjust. Other functions (?) are pretty simple (you canbasically find templates/code tutorials on the Internet)
- Need a little learning time, most of the time you need to looking at a bunch of code
- There has a big community so you can get a lot of help (when encountering difficulties)
- There has many games made with Renpy so you can find many reference
- Recently updated to the latest version (7.4.4) it dose not work anyQAQ
- Found the reason! It turned out to be blocked by my anti-virus software. Just turn off the anti-virus software then it works fine.
- The second engine I tried to use... I didn’t know why I couldn’t type Chinese (Chinese would become garbled) so I gave up www
- NVLMaker doesn't require any coding skill - very friendly to 0 Programming experience people
- UI editing is simple,Basically, you can just use the mouse to edit. The pictures do not need to be defined one by one, and you can use the pictures when you put all of them in the Data in the Project.
- You can find here (Steam) some game that made with NVL Maker
- My solution is to turn off the firewall and then you can use it normally.
- It (suika) is used to preview Project, so if you change Conf or init, it will also change
- Personally, I think it’s quite easy to use. The way its UI is customized is very similar to Renpy imagemap ,You just need to know the Hotspot
- To be honest, I don’t recommend - many interfaces are not ready-made, so i guess you have to do it yourself (such as accessing the screen, Skip / Auto, etc.)
- Probably because it is not specifically used to make VN
- If you only want to create a normal VN I think its not necessary to use Unity But if you want to make many mini-games or other effect then you can choose Unity
- - Currently its still update. After trying it out, I feel that Renpy is more recommend for me ( Maybe because I used Renpy longer ww )
- - Officla Documentation
- Compared with other engines, the update is slower (but there are still updates),I personally don’t recommend it very much, I don’t think it’s a special for VN. The engine is more suitable for adventure games plus some simple dialogues/options
- The screen looks like this
- There is very little tutorial(probably because fewer people use it)
- Updates are slow and require more time to learn + very few tutorials, so it is not recommended
Although the publicity says that you don’t need coding, you still have to type some necessary tags yourself. It’s similar to renpy but relatively simple and easy to learn.
This is the scene when writing a story or something
← Click this button then you can preview the game
here is the official site you can check official documentation and other things like GUI Builder
I mean this ( the GUI Builder ):
-The official update is fast, basically every few months there will be new updates and bug fixes
- Reason 1: Too little tutorial, 2: The method of exporting and other functions are not sure yet (for me)
Belle ( Still in development stage)
Same as Nvlmaker you don't need to code anything just need to use your mouse to write story
like Monogatari , Renpy or Renjs although you don't need to have much programming experience you can use them but you still have to learn some basic coding
With Belle you really don't need to learn any coding
You can define the images and character with this tool above
You can choose the screen size like 640*480 - 1680*1050 ( you can also type the resolution you want ),The font and text size can also be changed easily
UI is very easy to adjust you only need you mouse to move things and give the button function
you can custom dialogue Box ( its unlimited so basically you can create a dialogue box for every character)
Although it is simple to use, it lacks a lot of functions.
For example, it only comes with 2 transition screens, so people who want to use a lot of special effects have to add them by themselves. However, the official documents are very few and there are not many people who use it, so the tutorial is difficult to find.
Last updated time: 2017/03/21 ( Update history)
- If you want to really 0 Code + don't want to pay any money, you can choose it, but I personally don't recommend it because it lacks too many features + updates are very slow, this is a pretty outdated engine (I think)
- If you don’t want to learn any code and you have a little money, you can give it a try on TyranoBuilder or Visual Novel Maker
Although they are paid software, but they are much easier to use than Belle + have continuous updates + have more tutoria
Twine
Twine It is also a software for making visual novels, it is very simple to use, without any coding
It is very suitable for making games that have many options, branches
He has a lot of tutorial and a large community, so support is easy to find
It can also be used online, so if you don’t want to download it to your computer, you can also use it online
Would you like to give me a clap before leaving? I will be super happy to get a clap! ( You can click the like button up to 5 times)
